The story behind

This snack stands out for its rough and extremely crunchy outer texture, served on a rustic wooden board. The contrast between the heat of the green chili and the smooth cheese filling makes them a favorite at any gathering. This version uses a panko coating to achieve that professional, crispy finish shown in the photo.

Instructions

  1. 1
Cut the jalapeños in half lengthwise and remove the seeds and veins (wear gloves).
  2. 2
Mix the cream cheese with the shredded cheddar and a bit of garlic powder.
  3. 3
Fill each chili half with the cheese mixture without overfilling.
  4. 4
Dredge each chili first in flour, then in the beaten egg, and finally in the panko, pressing firmly so it adheres.
  5. 5
For a thicker breading, repeat the egg and panko step.
  6. 6
Fry in hot oil until golden brown and the cheese begins to melt.
  7. 7
Drain on paper towels and serve hot.
