The story behind
There is nothing like the taste of a freshly made donut at home. I love the lightness of the dough and how the granulated sugar clings to the still-warm surface, creating that characteristic texture seen in this presentation. It is a dessert that evokes comforting snacks.
Instructions
-
1Dissolve the yeast and a tablespoon of sugar in the warm milk; let it rest until bubbly.
-
2In a large bowl, mix the flour, the remaining sugar, salt, egg, butter, and the yeast mixture.
-
3Knead until the dough is smooth and elastic. Let it rise in a warm place until doubled in size.
-
4Roll out the dough and cut circles with a center hole to shape the donuts.
-
5Let the cut donuts rest for another 30 minutes.
-
6Fry in hot oil over medium heat until golden brown on both sides.
-
7Drain excess grease and, while still warm, toss them in granulated sugar to achieve the finish in the photo.
